The background color will not save as anything other than white.

  • By Andread888, September 6, 2010 @ 4:39 am

Last update makes it impossible to use multiple fingers while sketching. That was my fav part about this app!

  • By Richard Taylor, September 6, 2010 @ 9:48 am

The new version defaults to drawing with 1 finger. You can change it to draw with 2 or 3 fingers in settings. You get to settings from the gallery screen. It is the icon that looks like a gear.

  • By Rob, September 11, 2010 @ 5:33 pm

Love OmniSketch but for the iPhone version it really needs pinch-to-zoom. Is this feature coming?

  • By Richard Taylor, September 11, 2010 @ 9:27 pm

I’m working on adding zoom and layers.

    Thanks for the feedback!

  • By Ed, September 13, 2010 @ 11:20 am

    Hi Richard,
Omnisketch is really cool. I look forward to zoom and layers. I hope the layers will allow import of photos from the camera roll. Cheers!

  • By Ray, September 23, 2010 @ 8:52 pm

Happy to hear you are working on layers. Import of photos from the camera roll would be awesome. Thanks for the app!

  • By Jesse, September 25, 2010 @ 4:29 am

Best drawing app available for iPad! My only complaint is no zoom- glad to hear you’re working on it. I would gladly pay more for the ability to make custom brushes too.

  • By Paul Read, October 11, 2010 @ 4:07 am

Hi Richard. Just wanted to leave a small note to say thanks for a wonderful app that has inspired many of the illustrations that feature in my book. I’ve also released a PDF workflow on my rather manic work structure, wherein I give a brief review of the app. The Free PDF can be downloaded from Scribd – teapotmonk or from my web site.
Anyway,, thanks again for a wonderful app that helped me shape a book and keep my creativity juices flowing.

  • By Jbfisher, November 16, 2010 @ 7:25 pm

My favorite iPad app! I would love a fill tool and custom brushes-or at least a few more texture brushes in future update. Thanks for creating such a fantastic app!

  • By Michael, November 24, 2010 @ 8:53 am

Hello Richard. I have been playing with omnisketch for about 5 minutes and it’s fantastic! Highly addictive! Addition of zoom and layers would be great. Even more importantly: high resolution export. I will be looking forward to improvements, thanks!

  • By Wen, November 27, 2010 @ 6:17 am

This is my fav app – ever! I love to draw, but have a hard time using standard media due to a condition with my hands and the inability to grip very well. Your app has brought art back into my life!!!! Thank you!

  • By Edward Turner, November 29, 2010 @ 7:07 am

I was just checking out your app in the App Store. Congrats, looks pretty good.

Happy with your sales so far?

I’ve been working with some app developers the last few months, and I’ve learned that there’s two aspects that you need to focus on to be really successful selling apps in iTunes. I’d be happy to share what I’ve learned if you’re interested. Just let me know and I’ll send you a quick overview. (I’m not trying to sell you information, just don’t want to bother you if you’re not interested in what I have to share.)

    Best of luck,
    Ed Turner

  • By Ellie, December 10, 2010 @ 8:57 am

Heavenly. Addictive. I accused my cat of being my number one time waster, not any more !! Hi res out put pleeeez. Layers, pretty pleeeez.
You have so seriously made the most brilliant app here, just keep going, would willingly pay for upgrades. Have never left a comment at the app store yet. I’m going to now !

  • By Amikuq, December 26, 2010 @ 5:42 pm

Destined for greatness! I am totally in love with it. I like it better than art studio and sketchbook pro. I also would pay for updates. Being able to have layers and import other images would make it perfect. I hope to show you what I make soon. Thank you!

  • By Anita cawley, December 29, 2010 @ 4:49 pm

I have just lost a picture I’ve been working on for a while because I used the eraser tool! Not cool ! ! !

  • By Richard Taylor, December 29, 2010 @ 7:35 pm

I’ve been investigating the issue with the erasure but haven’t been able to reproduce it. Anyone else having the issue?

  • By Shai, December 30, 2010 @ 5:47 pm

Hello! Man, do I love this app! Thank you so much for creating such a unique product. Like so many fellow posters, I would love to see layers added and the ability to import photos. I have had problems with the erase tool, but it seems to occur sporadically. I usually save when I am at a good stopping point and it reverts back to the last saved file, so the loss (for me) is not too bad, but I can see where it can get frustrating to lose an entire drawing. Again, thanks for omnisketch, I really enjoy it!

  • By LPro, January 9, 2011 @ 9:36 am

Having problem when I click on pencil icon on tool bar (just right of the toolbar center) and having the app close. If I have not saved the work, it is lost. If I have saved the work then most recent saved version is recoverable.

Thanks for the great app…have used it for months and love it!

  • By LPro, January 9, 2011 @ 9:42 am

Update: after rebooting my iPad, the app works perfectly again! Please disregard my comment from a few minutes ago.

    Now…back to sketching! :0D

  • By Titi, January 13, 2011 @ 4:23 am

    Thx for this APP.
    realy good !!!

Nead 2 things more to be perfect :
    Zoom in/out and layers

    thx again

  • By Mark Bredius, February 17, 2011 @ 4:54 am

Thanks for creating this awesome app, Richard!

I’ve tried a bunch of procedural sketching apps, and this is definitely my favourite one. I’m looking forward to the zoom and layers options, which will really put you ahead of the competition.

Here are some more features I would really love to see. :-)

    * Gallery View – The option to copy/duplicate an existing sketch (or just add “Save as copy” to the save menu).

    * Gallery View – Export to Dropbox would be really awesome.

    * Canvas View – Eyedropper (when you tap and hold) to select a color on your canvas.

    * Color Palette – An easy way to select absolute black/white (which is kind of hard to do with the colorwheel).

    * Mirror Mode – The ability to manually place the center where mirroring takes place (with an option to reset to default).

    * Brush Control – A Preview of the width/opacity of the brush.

    * High resolution export – Not sure if this is at all feasable for “OmniSketch”, but I love what the people of KiwiPixel did for “Inspire Pro”. Check it out at

Keep up the good work! :)

  • By vail, March 26, 2011 @ 10:37 am

My drawing quit working. Can’t get it to draw for anything It used to work so well. what do I have to do? Thanks for any suggestions you can give.

  • By Juba, April 26, 2011 @ 7:53 am

Is there a way to duplicate a drawing in the gallery view? This is helpful if making minor modifications for production environments.

  • By Richard Taylor, May 2, 2011 @ 8:28 am

Not currently but I will include that feature in the next version.

  • By Richard Taylor, May 2, 2011 @ 8:28 am

    I need more information.

  • By Steven, May 6, 2011 @ 6:18 pm

I love this app and have turned on everyone I know to it. By far the best drawing app I have found. You have allot of fans. I use it all the time and just wanted to chime in on some features as well. Import image to background, zoom and layers.

    Love it, great work.

  • By Eden Maxwell, May 29, 2011 @ 2:17 pm

    iPod Touch 4g

I have emailed you twice (with no response) about tool bar auto hide. Although I have it off in the settings, it keeps defaulting to the on action—although it remains off in settings.

Also, why did your app go from $2.99 to $.99?

  • By Martin Kohn, June 11, 2011 @ 8:00 pm

Thanks so much for this awesome app. It’s creative potential is huge. Sounds like you’re working on the features that will really fulfill this potential: import photos, layers, etc. Can you give any indication of how you’re progressing?

  • By Annette, June 12, 2011 @ 7:10 pm

This is one of my favorite apps.
I would like to see the following additions in future upgrades: duplicate (copy drawings), import images, layers, hi-res, export more than one image in gallery, export ALL, create folders in gallery, an “are you sure” question before posting, tweeting, etc. I don’t necessarily want my art posted but when I’m going through the tedious process of copying over my gallery to my photos 1 by 1 sometimes I slip and a piece gets posted. (This could be turned on/off in a default setting for people who want to post online.)
More great brushes although I LOVE what you have already. THIS is my go-to program and I spend more time using Omnisketch than any other app. Would pay for an upgrade to Omnisketch Pro. Thanks for you wonderful APP!!!
(PS Upon reviewing comments I agree with everything Mark Bredius said!)

  • By Linda obrien, July 27, 2011 @ 1:52 am

My goto app. Please give the ability to import from the camera roll – as I work in both black and white and color. then it would be perfect!
    Thanks in advance,

  • By Ran, August 8, 2011 @ 2:52 am

I am Ran, a manager of Nanjing Yipin Network Information Technology Co.,Ltd. of China. I have seen your app called”OmniSketch
” in App Store, and think it is wonderful. As the feature of our platform is promo codes promotion, I wonder whether you can offer me some promo codes ( About ten or more .) so that I can promote your app freely. Thank you! Welcome to contact me:
    Telephone number: +86 02552857114
    Best regards,

  • By Linda Obrien, August 9, 2011 @ 10:44 pm

Never received a reply from my question in July. Will there be an update allowing you to import an image from your photo library/camera roll. It would be very helpful to bring a saved image back in.
    Thanks in advance,

  • By Richard Taylor, August 10, 2011 @ 7:36 am

The ability to import from the photo library will be added. I’m working on a major update. Not sure when it will be ready yet.

  • By Sadface, August 15, 2011 @ 3:37 am

Great app! I just have one issue.. after I click save, sometimes those pictures don’t actually save. When I reopen the app later they are gone. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

  • By Wendy, August 21, 2011 @ 10:27 am

The OmniSketch app disappeared from my iPad. I did not delete it.

  • By Richard Taylor, August 21, 2011 @ 8:46 pm

Very odd, iOS apps don’t have the ability to remove themselves. If you unchecked it in iTunes then synced it would be removed.

You should be able to re-install it from iTunes. You won’t be charged again.

  • By CH, August 26, 2011 @ 11:14 pm

    Hi Richard,

I’ve only had OmniSketch for a few days but I’m addicted to it.

I tend to be very controlled in my drawing style, but OmniSketch encourages me to draw more freely and experiment with different styles. I am creating sketches that look like ink caricatures, pencil sketches, monochrome illustrations, pastels and colourful still life and landscape paintings, which I haven’t been doing in traditional materials (analogue art?) for years because I don’t have much space to set up.

All the sketches in the gallery are inspiring in this regard too. I need some tips: How do some OmniSketchers achieve such finely finished work after the algorithm takes over and things go OmniSketchy? Is there a way to put in plain strokes for fine detail near the end of sketching? Likewise for erasing?

OmniSketch is marvellous as it is but if you are considering new features I would love future OmniSketch versions to have:

    - duplicate / copy in the gallery, so I can save a stage and experiment further without risking my drawing
    - zoom for drawing and viewing fine detail
    - an easier way to get back to black and white after colour selections, especially for backgrounds (maybe if the white middle of the colour wheel was bigger, or add black and white buttons or undo for backgrounds?)
    - even wider widest brush settings, at least for the rectangular/line (4th brush).

    Great app.

  • By Helen Bradley, October 18, 2011 @ 8:28 pm

    Hey Richard

Love this app and have featured it a number of times in my blog.

I would love to see layers and black/ white selection. Saving colors would be great but an eyedropper for selecting colors from the project will do.

Thanks for the new brushes they totally rock!

  • By Richard Taylor, October 19, 2011 @ 9:57 am

I’m working on layers now. I agree about color selection and will try to get that into the next feature release also.

  • By Karen J, November 9, 2011 @ 11:13 pm

    Hey Richard
I just wanted to say how much I love this app. It has inspired me to take my art to different levels. I had been away from drawing for years before I purchased this app. I look forward to creating something new every chance I get. Thank you! How do I go about rating it in the app store?

  • By VCD, November 12, 2011 @ 5:08 am

Just bought the galaxy note, and dl omnisketch from samsung app, but the pen pressure control just not there in the brush control….Am i doing anything wrong??

  • By mikel, November 12, 2011 @ 1:40 pm

    hi Richard
Love the app in android, very promising,
quick question got a new phone (galaxy note) love doodling and was wondering how to enable the pressure sensitivity of the wacom pen is there a way to enabled in the current version or we have to wait a bit for it?
    thanks and keep it up!

  • By Richard Taylor, November 13, 2011 @ 8:18 am

Strange, I see the pen pressure settings on my Galaxy Note test device. I’ll check with Samsung to see if there is something different with the production phones.

Thank you for reporting the issue.

  • By mikel, November 13, 2011 @ 4:35 pm

    Hey Richard
Just to confirm the only options I can see in the brush control menu are the brush width, opacity and adjustments it will be amazing if you could update, love my note and can’t wait for a great piece of painting app like yours fully exploiting it!
    Thanks a lot!

  • By ivo, November 22, 2011 @ 10:09 am

I have downloaded the Android application but cannot figure out how to upload my pictures on Facebook or on your website. The ‘?’ shows an inactive Facebook button. Help me out if anyone knows how?

  • By ivo, November 22, 2011 @ 10:10 am

Cannot upload my images from my Android to this website or Facebook? The buttons are inactive.

  • By VCD, November 29, 2011 @ 9:14 am

    Hello Richard,
Would like to know if any clue/update to the pressure sensitivity issue in Omnisketch android? Million Thx in advance!

  • By pun, December 5, 2011 @ 8:57 pm

pressure sensitivity is not working on my note either.

  • By Jim, December 12, 2011 @ 4:25 pm

Still waiting on pressure sensitivity for the Galaxy Note – it says it is there in the directions but when you click on brush properties – there is not option….

  • By Free, December 20, 2011 @ 4:19 am

using brand new galaxy note, also have no pressure sensitivity settings like other people mentioning here.

  • By VCD, December 21, 2011 @ 4:25 am

Seems a months now, still waiting….

  • By Richard Taylor, December 21, 2011 @ 7:59 am

I think I’ve nailed this down. Samsung gave me a lower level SDK then what is currently available and it works on my prototype Note but not on the production versions. I’m working with Samsung to resolve this.

  • By mikel, December 21, 2011 @ 11:40 am

Hey Richard thanks a lot for the heads up!
Really looking forward an updated version :)
    Love your app

  • By Randy, December 26, 2011 @ 10:21 pm

I love omni sketch in every way. I have it on my iPad.
It had been a while, maybe a month since I had used it. I tried to open it today and it would go to a black screen and stop. I don’t want to lose my saved sketches. Do you have any ideas. Thanks. I appreciate any help you can give me.

  • By Richard Taylor, December 27, 2011 @ 8:27 am

Have you tried rebooting your iPad then opening OmniSketch?

  • By Randy, January 1, 2012 @ 9:14 pm

I have rebooted three times and no luck. My only concern is saving the old sketches. Any more ideas? Thanks again!

  • By eric, January 22, 2012 @ 2:43 pm

Richard I like your app a lot but on my ipod it was a little clumsy with fingertip. I bought a stylus and thought to try it again but no matter where I touch on the screen, with finger or stylus, the contact only shows up in a narrow diagonal strip from top to right corner.I’ve renewed the software on itunes and removed/reloaded the app.No change. Any suggestions?

  • By Richard Taylor, January 25, 2012 @ 9:08 pm

This is a but that some devices have. I’m working on a fix and should have a new version ready soon. Sorry for the problems.

  • By Koen, January 26, 2012 @ 10:26 am

My 11y-old daughter would like me to install OmniSketch on my Android-phone. I was wondering why this app needs “permissions” to 1.NETWORK COMMUNICATION:FULL INTERNET ACCESS and 2.PHONE CALLS: READ PHONE STATE AND IDENTITY
“Allows the application to access the phone features of the device. An application with this permission can determine the phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like.”

    Does anybody know?

  • By Puzzled, January 30, 2012 @ 4:40 am

    1. Sounds a bit daft but where do I go to delete a sketch I have saved?
    2. I downloaded this via my Samsung Apps page (free) but its not on Apps Market to download to my Desire S

Any suggestions on both would be appreciated – Thanks

  • By Corrin, March 4, 2012 @ 8:48 am

Can I print my pictures ? What is the resolution ?

  • By Richard Taylor, March 15, 2012 @ 9:01 pm

You’ll need to export them to your photos app and print from there. They are the some resolution as the device.

To the people having problems posting to facebook and twitter:

Are you having trouble on Android or iOS?

  • By Josue Ayala, March 20, 2012 @ 4:01 pm

I’ve been having problems with the app every time I try to draw it begins to lag I’ve tried to delete the app and install it again but it has not fixed the problem, is it just me because I’ve been using the app with the new iPad?

  • By Richard Taylor, March 20, 2012 @ 4:07 pm

It’s a problem with the App on the new iPad. I submitted a new version to fix this issue over the weekend. It will hopefully be release by the end of the week.

  • By Simon, March 22, 2012 @ 2:00 pm

This app does not work at all on the new iPad. Cannot draw anything.

    Hope the update remedies this.

  • By Richard Taylor, March 22, 2012 @ 2:02 pm

A fix for the new iPad was submitted over the weekend. Hopefully it will be released by Apple soon.

  • By Keais, March 27, 2012 @ 5:17 pm

On the iPad 3 with the new version of Omnisketch if you draw with a fine tip then leave the app to do other things when you come back and start to draw where you left off then press undo the image will become pixellated.

  • By Nick, April 6, 2012 @ 6:23 am

I purchased the extra brush pack on the iPhone, but is there no way to use them on the iPad?

  • By Richard Taylor, April 6, 2012 @ 8:16 am

Do you mean that you can select the new brushes or they aren’t working when you select them?

  • By Nick, April 6, 2012 @ 11:41 am

I don’t see how to restore an in-app purchase. e.g. if I delete and reinstall the app, how would I re-enable the extra brushes?

  • By Richard Taylor, April 6, 2012 @ 12:25 pm

If you purchase again you’ll get a message saying that you can download it again for free.

  • By Maria, April 10, 2012 @ 3:26 pm

Hi, there are two troubles with the app both connected to facebook integration: 1. export to facebook directly fom the app doesnt work. 2. Cant publish rotated sketches to facebook ( after sending sketches to galery from the app)

  • By Scott, April 21, 2012 @ 9:00 pm

Although I can’t draw worth a darn I enjoy Omnisketch for making the kalidoscope type patterns. I would like more symetrical brushes beyond the circle, triangle and the omega looking brush. The straight line is usefull for this approach iif used sparingly.

Also this morning I had an App Store message that a second add on brush set was available. I had to take care of something esle first and declined the purchase for later. Now I can’t find any mention of it anywhere in the App store or any mention of it on your site. Did I get an erroneous message ot is there another add on brush set.

  • By Richard Taylor, April 22, 2012 @ 9:54 am

If you scroll the brush palette to the right you’ll see the additional set of brushes.

  • By Scott, April 22, 2012 @ 5:55 pm

I can access the two pages of brushes which includes the first set of additional add on brushes a month or more back. The pop message I received led me to believe there was a newer third set since I already had one add on set.

I’m guessing the pop up that appeared when I opened Omnisketch was referring to the set I had already purchased since no other sets are appearing in the app store.

Other symetrical shapes I was thinking of: diamonds (equal proportion and enlongated), enlongated ovals perhaps with a pointed end like a tear drop, hlf moons, crosses, slice of pie shapes, curved lines like the ones used to make happy faces in text and e-mails, figure 8′s, arrow shapes (two lines of a triangle with an open end, a chevron, once circle with a trailing set of half circles with the half circles getting smaller and smaller the further away they get…..

Just some ideas of things I would use. I’m probably an off beat of your typical user but I don’t use any of the brushes that are not perfectly symetrical geometric shapes. Needless to say I run out of a variety of shapes pretty fast but varying the blend modes keeps it interesting.

  • By Moazzam, April 25, 2012 @ 5:51 am

Hi, I’ve just bought a Samsung Note yesterday, and I’m trying to download Omnisketch from the Android Store. It says that it is incompatible with my device. I have already tried updating my device wth the latest update, but the problem is still here. Any help would be appreciated! :)

  • By Richard Taylor, April 25, 2012 @ 7:24 am

Samsung required me to put some restrictions on what devices can download the App from Google Play. These restrictions will be lifted on 4/29 and you should be able to download it after that. It will also be available on other android phones and tablets.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • By burak yahsi, May 7, 2012 @ 4:48 pm

I am using samsung galaxy note. omnisketch crashed and does not restart. The software looks like occupying more then 200 mb. could it be a memory issue¿Before crashing the order of all the pics in gallery of the app was mixed up.

  • By Richard, May 17, 2012 @ 6:28 pm

Great app, so good I wanted to post to Facebook.

    I can’t.

Endpoint disabled error. Fix pretty please!

  • By Richard Taylor, May 17, 2012 @ 9:20 pm

Are you using an iPad/iPhone or Android device? I just tested posting to Facebook from iPad and it worked fine.

  • By H C Serrano, May 29, 2012 @ 8:57 am

Hi Richard, just wanted to thank you for this great app.
Bought it yesterday and haven’t stopped since.
As a professional CG artist, this has added a great tool to my arsenal. Zoom and Layers will be an awesome addition.
3 things that would be great also :)
    1. A drawn out fill object -mode or Brush- (like Alchemy on PC)
    2. The ability to create / add your own brushes.
    3. The ability to lock and or adjust orientation of brushes

I know you’re selling brushes, but there’s the opportunity for a real brushes community to blossom with this app, and that can only do sales good? :) If not that, then maybe we could submit ideas for inclusion?

anyhoot, will be recommending this to all my friends in the CG community.

GL with it all and hope it gets the recognition it deserves

  • By Zia Gipson, June 3, 2012 @ 12:02 pm

Hi, I have really enjoyed the pattern drawings I have made (Ipad 2) but they export very small. I want to send into an art competition and possibly they will be printed in book. So, a tiny image (in order to do 300 dpi) won’t be great. Any suggestions? By the time I export them to Photos and then email them they are so little.

  • By Sal, June 7, 2012 @ 2:05 pm

    Hi there

It seems Omnisketch is somewhat a vector / pixel hybrid program, if so why u do not have an svd export, or even pdf? Some pics in ur gallery are pixelated. Export abilities are focused on social sites and those issues make it not an option for digital art.I think this application has the potential of becoming a v good professional tool but may need better export options, specially svg if u are working in that line and pdf… Any ways congrats for your nice app

  • By Ruth Carr, August 14, 2012 @ 2:49 pm

I still can’t get the second page of brushes that came with the original purchase of OmniSketch. I purchased the additional ‘geometry’ set today and when I did it apparently took away the page 2. So now I have 1 page of standard brushes and 1 page of geometry brushes. I still love the app but want all of the brushes I have paid for. Thanks

  • By Richard Taylor, August 14, 2012 @ 3:15 pm

There actually are only 2 pages of brushes available. The app comes with the Standard Brush set and the Geometry brushes are available as an in app purchase.

My kids love omnisketch, and in watching them, have tried it and come to love it too. But i cant seem to find a way to draw a simple straight or curved line. the brush options all seem to create an effect, even the brush that looks closest to a line, when thickened, creates a “fraying” effect on the edges. any tips for this? thanks!

I’m sorry for posting this question here. I can’t find another place to ask. How do I get a smooth line for drawing? I haven’t found the icon that just draws a line without curious bends at the end.

    Thanks for your help!

the software is well written responsive there is no differential between where the finger or stylus touch the screen accuracy is great. I bought the Android version as well and is having a huge problem because it does not save pictures to gallery. I think that the developer should read the Android forum and see all the 5 star reviews that turned to 1 stars. credit to the SourceForge project in the original cOder of the procedural brush system is good too. I would hate to see an incredibly good unique creative project like this interface go down for any attention to complaints, because people Don’t buy if they see the one star reviews

I have a fix for the issues submitted to Apple but unfortunately they won’t expedite the review. Sorry about the issues.

I’ve submitted a fix to Apple but I’m at the mercy as far as approving and releasing it.
